FocusTube is a Chrome Extension that helps users track their YouTube watch time by category (Educational, Entertainment, Productivity, etc.). We take privacy seriously and designed FocusTube to be local-first: your analytics stay in your browser unless you explicitly consent to share.
This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
YouTube Video Metadata (title, URL, duration, timestamp)
Stored locally in your browser’s storage to calculate watch time and generate analytics.
Category Classification Requests
When a video needs to be classified, its title and/or transcript snippet may be securely sent to our server (via Cloudflare Worker) for processing. This server uses OpenAI’s API to determine the category.
No personal identifiers (such as name, email, or Google account details) are collected or stored.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data with third parties.
Local Storage (IndexedDB/Chrome Storage): All your watch history analytics are stored on your own device.
Temporary Processing: Classification requests sent to our Cloudflare Worker are processed in real-time and not stored permanently on our servers.
The extension requests the following permissions, which are required for functionality:
We request only the minimum permissions needed.
Cloudflare Workers – secure relay to handle classification requests.
OpenAI API – used to categorize video titles/snippets into productivity/educational/entertainment.
These services may temporarily process video metadata but do not receive any personal identifiers.
You may clear your stored analytics at any time from the extension’s Options page.
You can uninstall the extension at any time to stop all data collection.
FocusTube is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be posted here with a revised “Last updated” date.
